September Post

Can't believe we are only a few school days away from Fall Break?!?

This school year is off to an amazing start!  Thank you for all of your hard work!

I am really challenging myself to get into classrooms more on a daily basis.  I have seen so many amazing things this school year and continue to see fabulous lessons prepared by amazing teachers - Thank you!!  Keep up the great work!!

Prayers for Mrs. Adams

Please continue to pray for Mrs. Adams.  Her surgery was successful and she did spend the night at the hospital but is home now recovering.  Please keep her in your prayers.

#KidsDeserveit! - I hope you have been able to read through the 1st chapter of Kids Deserve it!  I wanted to share some thoughts and challenges the 1st chapter offers.

Chapter 1 Thoughts

Here are 2 of my favorite parts of chapter 1

p. 14
What type of environment are your students walking into daily?

p. 17
Are you bringing fire into your classroom?

  • Great questions here.....
  • Is your room on fire with learning??
  • Is your room the hub of activity??
  • If students had the choice would they pick your room to enter every day?
  • We have so much power as educators to set the tone of our environment!
  • What kind of exciting things do you have planned for your students today??
-------

I know it has been a very busy start to the school year but I hope you are getting a chance to read "Kids Deserve it!".  It is a very powerful book!

Chapter 1 is a great way to help us self reflect on our current practices and how we are being creative at school.

Ch 1 challenges:
  1. How can you "go big"?
  2. What's a new way to be creative in class to increase your students' excitement?
  3. Don't be afraid to chart new waters and take a risk.  What's an idea you've wanted to try but haven't?

Attendance!

It has been great to see our high attendance rate at the beginning of this school year!  400+ with perfect attendance for the month of August was awesome!!

Each student has been recognized in the lunchroom during their lunch period.  I think the students have really enjoyed hearing their name called out and being recognized for their achievement.

Thank you for placing a high emphasis on attendance and tracking this data with each child in your classroom.  I know a lot of you have a tracking log your students are keeping in their "Leadership Notebook".  Great job getting your students tracking their own data!!

If you are not tracking this with an attendance chart and students are not keeping it in their "Leadership Notebook" please let me know and we can help you get started.

Leader in Me Calendar for this year

PTO purchased our student activity books again this year.  Please thank them any chance you have.

Please keep the common language going in our school!  The Leader in Me process has really made a positive impact in our school!  Thank you!

I am going to start working with 5th grade Habit Leaders right after Fall Break.  Hopefully we can start coming into rooms very soon.

Data

Mr. Taylor is doing a great job getting the data up in the lunchroom and in the front office.  We will continue to track data during the school year and post updates.

Schedules

Thank you for posting your schedules outside  your door and emailing your schedule to me.  This is very helpful when we are doing walkthroughs.

Grade level & dept meetings

We are using PD$$ to pay for subs for grade level and dept meetings.  So far a few have already met in Mrs. T's room.  There has been some great planning sessions and I am very proud of the directions we are moving into with standards based lesson planning and collaborative planning.  GREAT JOB!!

Data Meetings

This Monday, Sept 26 we will have data meetings in Mrs. T's room during your PE time.  We will discuss items shared in the Google Form filled out last week.
