Have a GREAT 1st Day!

I hope everyone has a GREAT 1st Day!

I know everyone has put in a great deal of preparation for our students and now its go time!

Reminder - K-5 parents will walk kids to class on the first day.  K parents can walk kids to class until next Friday.

Open House was great tonight!  I was so nice to see all of our students and their parents.  I heard so many positive comments and saw so much excitement in the eyes of our kids.  Thank you for working so hard to prepare for your students.  I went in a lot of rooms and was able to some great looking rooms!

From "The Energy Bus"

 p. 107 - Enthusiasm attracts more passengers and energizes them during the ride

p.109 - The simple truth is that when you are excited people get excited about where your bus is going and this makes them want to get on and stay on your bus.

Expectations:
  • Love kids
  • Love what you do
  • Be a team player
  • Be a Leader

Remember on your first day:
  • Have fun!
  • No assessments!
  • Get to know your kids
  • Set expectations
Remember during the first week of school:
  • Get to know your kids
  • Get to know your parents
  • Communicate with your students and parents
  • Set expectations
  • Use the 7 Habits Language!
Challenge 1: Call each child's parent during the 1st week of school & let the child know:

"Matt - I talked to your mom today.  She is so nice.  I called to brag on what a good job you did this week paying attention."

Challenge 2: Reach out to a new employee this week to introduce yourself.  Get to know them and let them get to know you.  Keep building the culture of the school in a positive way.

Tweets I read this week:

"I want to know what my child will be learning in the first month of school so I can connect & complement at home"

We are a school and all greet (shake hands, high fives, fist pumps) at the door to start

Ss are purposefully engaged with content and connecting--not merely on devices.

Housekeeping notes for tomorrow:

Make sure you know where every student is going after school.  If you do not know - call parents

  • Grades K & 1 - make sure you walk your child to their bus and give bus drivers their address (copy of student info sheet or something).
  • Grades 2-5 - if they are a new student -  make sure you walk your child to their bus and give bus drivers their address (copy of student info sheet or something)
FYI - Alice Johnson is having some problems with her foot after a recent surgery and is having to take some unexpected days off.  Mrs. Hilbert (THANK YOU) took care of open house tonight and will be the first day of school teacher for Mrs. Johnson.  Starting Monday Ms. Elizabeth Hodges will take over for her until she can return.
