This has been such a great school year and really it has been a fast school year!?!
It seems like yesterday we were kicking things off and it was still the Fall of 2015. It's hard to believe our 5th graders are moving on to middle school. I truly feel our 5th graders are moving on ready to become successful 6th graders. Each year we are turning out students who are better prepared to be successful as they move on into their educational career.
I am very proud of this 5th grade class and all of our classes at Creekside. A very high number of students are involved with extracurricular activities at Creekside which I believe has a very positive impact on our school climate. Thank you to all teachers and staff members who have a hand in this on a daily basis.
This group of 5th students has produced the lowest amount of office referrals than any 5th grade class we have had since I have been at Creekside (12 years). Great job to our students, teachers and staff who model and encourage a positive school climate. Thank you!
I am very excited and pleased to see our Leader in Me program at CES continue to grow each year. We have so many extracurricular activities which continue to make a positive impact on our school.
Extracurricular activities at Creekside:
- CNN Team
- 4th Art Club
- 5th Art Club
- Keyboard Club
- Chorus
- Drama Club
- Archery Club
- 2nd / 3rd Running Club
- 4th / 5th Running Club
- KNEX Club
- Assistant Chiefs
- Green Team
- Counselors Assistants Team
- 5th Habit Leaders
- Scholars Bowl Team
- Beta Club
We are continuing to "Develop Leaders" on a daily basis! Thank you!
I am sure there are other clubs / teams we could develop at CES and if you are interested in something please let me know. I would love to see the number of opportunities grow in the future.
I am also looking forward to growing our Leader in Me program in the future in creating a parent leadership team (several parents have been identified by our Lighthouse Team), moving leadership notebooks into a bigger role in all of our classrooms (this will be a part of our CIP for next year) and enhancing our school environment around several places in our building.

Changes
We have a few changes for next year so I just wanted to outline things to keep everyone in the loop.
I am currently working with all grades affected by these changes.
I need everyone to be patient as we work out all of the details.
All staff members affected by these changes are a little stressed so please be positive with everyone.
--------
We have gone through changes before with units lost and gained and staff members moved from grade level to grade level and things will be fine. We just need a little more time to make all the necessary adjustments. Please be patient and positive.
3 teachers are retiring - CONGRATS!!
Mrs. Sisk - 1st grade
Mrs. Goff - 2nd grade
Mrs. Carter - 2nd grade
We are losing a unit at CES for next year. Currently we have 51 classroom units. We will move down to 50 units. This loss is directly related to our enrollment changes from last year to this year.
Also, this 2nd grade class is smaller and next year's 2nd grade class is large, so we will be shifting a unit to 2nd grade to give 2nd grade 9 units.
Grades affected - 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
2nd will be up to 9 units
3rd will be down to 7 units
4th will be down to 7 units
Other grades will remain the same:
K - 10 units
1st - 9 units
2nd - 9 units
3rd - 7 units
4th - 7 units
5th - 8 units
Also, another change is we are losing 1 of our Instructional Coaching Units. This is coming from the change in how the State Dept of Ed is funding these positions. Currently Rhonda and Cheryl are our ICs. I am working with RH and CG with this change and one of them will be going back to the classroom. Please do not bombard them with questions at this point and respect their positions as we go through these changes.
I will update you as the changes happen.
--------
Also, with construction changes we will be moving some portables next week (May 31) and 4 of our 5th grade teachers will be coming inside the building for next year (Newton, Davis, Skarp and Lacy).
Angie Johnson will be moving into our ICs room on B-wing and ICs are moving (somewhere - not sure).
Newton - AJohnson's old room
Davis - empty room
Skarp - meeting room next to Pride
Lacy - Leadership room
All of these rooms are on the Blue Hall.
Turner, Wood, Pettie, Wilbanks and Fee will all remain in portable classrooms until the new building is finished. We are looking at March 2017 as a move in date right now.
-------
I know this is a very long post but I appreciate everyone reading over this. Please remain positive and professional this week as we wade through changes in our staff and as we close the 2015-16 school year.
As I said in the beginning of this post we have had a great school year. I am very proud of all of our accomplishments. I am looking forward to a fabulous summer but I am also sad to see this year end.
Have a great week!
